We arrived at almost 3 am and the staff was kind and welcomed us with a bright smile and willingness to serve us the best way they could. They even gave me an update and the room was excellent with a balcony. It's a smoke-free environment; however, I am a smoker, and they gave me a room with a balcony upon my request. The staff is customer-oriented and they do all they can to have you satisfied. They offer a lovely pool and a gym. Breakfast is generous and good: all continental options (scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, cake, crackers, coffee/milk/tea, etc) plus regional food (yucca, jerked beef, tapioca). They do have a parking place for guests, which is highly reccomended in the city. Improvement necessary: WI-FI services are extremely faulty and annoying.

The hotel is not so good to tourists. It's good to business travelers. The beach in front the hotel is desert, although it's sometimes not recomended. The breakfast is good. You can order "tapioca", despite nobody tell you. The "partial ocean view", from 424 room Doesn't exist. I booked a room with it, but I didn't have. The Wi-Fi is bad. The pool is on the top. The parking is free.

“Beach front”

The hotel has nothing special but is just in front of the beach. In the morning you can have a very nice view on the sea. The breakfast is great. The staff is not very nice and the room is bit humid, not very clean.

Well, my expectations were modest upon arrival and I just needed a decent place to sleep during a long conference week. And what I knew about Joao Pessoa before, it became a more recent holiday resort for Brazilians in the North of Recife and is situated along the coast. Joao Pessoa is also known as the city "where the sun rises first", because it is the easternmost city in the Americas. One of the hotel's amenities is its location just across the beach road with almost direct access to the beach (what I never used) but it feels better (sound of the sea) than somewhere in the city (noise). The Intercity hotel offers a number of large rooms basically equipped (medium standard), nothing special but clean -- what is my basic requirement. The breakfast buffet (included) is OK but just average as well. A potential problem I perceived during my stay (not only in the hotel) is the lack of any language knowledge besides Portuguese -- an omnipresent phenomenon in most Latin American countries while trying to attract international tourism.

While the designers of this hotel on the windy beach of Tambaú in João Pessoa should be credited with creating a breezy open atmosphere, staying here has the feeling of being in the center of a construction zone. Vertical ventilation shafts intersect the four floors and allow any and all noises to reverberate throughout. The place booms and groans and echoes at all hours of the day and night. You'd think they were moving two new refrigeration units into the kitchen at any given time. But you get used to it, even if the rooster crowing from the barnyard next door wakes you up earlier than planned from sleep in a comfortable bed in a sparse, strangely laid out apartamento. Stark and white and dimly lit with odd furniture, a misplaced mirror and ?a kitchen sink?, it takes a while to get comfortable. The rooftop swimming pool is a token effort, café de manhã is welcome and comes early, stair handrails have a way of coming undone when you least expect them to, and the place generally seems to be a poorer cousin to the Intercity Marinas in Cabo Branco a kilometre or two away. Oh, and unless you are directly under the modem expect only snail mail WiFi.
